Dr. Kyuyoung Song received B.A. and M.S. degrees in Biology from Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea. She got her Ph.D. in Genetics from University of Illinois School of Medicine in 1987, and did her postdoctoral work at Wieland Huttner's laboratory in the cell biology group, EMBL, Heidelberg. Her doctoral and postdoctoral works involved in the establishment of gene targeting in mammalian cells by homologous recombination. Since 1990, she has been investigating human genomics in the department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Ulsan College of Medicine. She participated in the construction of high-resolution sequence ready map for a part of human chromosome 12, and served as the principal investigator of the Korean SNP/ HapMap project (2003-2008). With the advent of common complex disease genetics, she has focused her research on Korean inflammatory bowel disease genetics.
