Dr. Chung has been a professor at the School of Biological Sciences, University of Ulsan, since 2009. Prior to this appointment, he spent 30 years teaching and conducting research at Medical Schools at Chonbuk and Wonkwang Universities. He received his medical degree from Chonnam University School of Medicine and completed his residency in Microbiology and Immunology at the Department of Microbiology, Chonbuk University Medical School.

Dr. Chung began his career at Chonbuk National University School of Medicine in 1980, where he eventually became a professor. In 1985-1986, he pursued a postdoctoral fellowship in immunology at the University of Utah School of Medicine. From 1984 to 2009, he served as the head of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Wonkwang University Medical School.

Dr. Chung's research interests encompass immune regulation and gaseous transmitters, with a primary focus on cutaneous immunity and the health-promoting effects of carbon monoxide (CO). He held the position of director at the Genome Research Center for Immunologic Diseases from 2000 to 2009 and later directed the Biogas Research Center from 2011 to 2016.

Throughout his career, Dr. Chung has actively participated in professional societies and research meetings. He has also contributed to the editorial boards of numerous domestic and international journals. His leadership roles have included presidencies in organizations such as the Korean Society for Molecular and Cellular Biology, the Korean Society of Cell Biology, and the Korean Association of Immunology. Currently, he serves on the editorial board of Cell Mediated Immunity.

Dr. Chung's achievements have been recognized with awards such as the Mokam Award and the Wunsch Medical Award. He has an impressive publication record, with over 400 papers published in peer-reviewed journals in the fields of Cellular Immunology, inflammation, and Biomedical gases.
